Puerto Chale is a quiet fishing community on the shores of the Pacific Ocean and the closest place to La Paz for spotting gray whales. This winter-season natural phenomenon attracts thousands of visitors every year from around the world.
This community is still under development for tourism, so it remains a tranquil haven far from the hustle and bustle. Fishing drives its economy, and there are several small restaurants where you can sample the catch of the day or buy fresh seafood to take home and prepare yourself.
Because it’s two hours away from La Paz, visitors should budget half a day to head out on a panga to spot some whales, grab a bite to eat at Puerto Chale, and return with plenty of time to enjoy a fun evening in La Paz.
